As humans, we are surrounded by colour 24/7, and it affects us all differently in our day to day lives. It can make you can feel down in the dumps and depressed or feel happy and cheerful. It plays on all our emotions, our mind, body, and spirit.
From the time you wake up, colour is all around you. It’s in your rooms, the clothes you choose, the dishes you use for your meals, the make-up you put on. Then you leave the house, and you are surrounded by colour outside, at your place of work, and so on and so forth.

Warm colours vs. cool colours

Warm colours: If you have a big room and want it to feel cozier and more intimate, paint it yellow, orange, red or brown. The warm colours make people feel happy. Just think how you feel when you wake up in the morning, and the sun is shining.
Cool colours: If you have a small space and want it to feel bigger, paint it blue, green or grey. The cool colours are healing colours and thats why they are good for bedrooms, bathrooms and meditation rooms. Any place that you go to unwind and relax.

Let’s talk about grey

In the décor world, grey has been trending for five years. People are painting their rooms grey, choosing grey cabinets, flooring, tiles, etc. and personally I don’t understand it because when it is grey outside; meaning grey sky, raining, and dirty, we feel depressed, miserable and in low spirits and people are bringing it into their homes, but as we say, “to each his or her own hue”. When the sun is shining, the sky is blue; flowers are blooming, we feel happy and in high spirits.

Everyone has their preferred hue

As an Interior Decorator and a Hunter Douglas Consultant, I have been to a lot of client’s homes, and it amazes me how they react to colour differently.

Neutral colours
Some people like their homes grey, white, ivory, taupe, beige and black with no accent colours, it doesn’t even faze them to bring in colour because this is what makes them feel happy.

Neutral with accent colours
Other people will choose these neutral tones but will choose an accent colour of their choice whether in a rug, throw, art, pillows, etc.; some will even do an accent wall.

Soothing colours
Then there are the people who don’t like neutral coloured walls at all and paint their rooms a soothing colour like blue, green, yellow, grey, lavender or violet.

Multiple colours
Last but not least there are the people who choose multiple colours and strong funky colours which usually are a showcase of their free spirited personality.

At the end of the day it doesn’t matter what I think as a decorator or what you think when you walk into that person’s house because the way they’ve decorated it and the colours they have chosen is what helps heal them emotionally, physically and mentally, and it is what they have done to turn their house into a home.

Let me tell you about my dream

Just the other night, I had a dream that I saw a purple light. Not once but twice. It was very weird! In my dream, I could see myself sleeping on my right side (I’m sure I was probably really sleeping on my right side) and I was looking at this purple light right beside me, and I was thinking how beautiful it looked, I had the same dream again but the purple light was bigger. When I woke up, the first thing that came to my mind was how I’m always drawn to purple which means creativity, and it made me feel that I am on the right track and that what I have created with Home Healing Hues will inspire and motivate people to live their best life.
